Al Quds Underground Project
The Al Quds Underground Festival was based on a unique concept that brought audience and artists to the most interesting locations of the historic Old Town of Jerusalem. As a member of the audience, you were guided through the small alleys and stairs to hidden places where you were welcomed by the residents and became witness of a short art performance, theatre play or piece of music. It was an intense and direct way to experience the Old City, to connect with its residents and to perceive the narratives and reflextions of artists on “Jerusalem-behind-the-scenes”. Al Quds Undergound was an initiative by Merlijn Twaalfhoven.
The aim was to diminish the distance between Westerners and Palestinians, and to stimulate culture in places that are suffering from conflict and political tension. Bursting straight through the blazing noise of fanatics, talking heads and political leaders, Al Quds Underground brought an intimate and personal sound from person to person, from heart to heart.
I was in charge of all the communications for the Al Quds Underground Festival. The Festival gained a lot of media attention, a.o. the NRC Handelsblad, the Volkskrant, the NOS News (8 o’clock), RTL News, Radio 1 and Al Jazeera English.Project Management
